DALLAS—In a plot twist that no one saw coming in the Cowboys locker room at the annual in person fantasy football draft held amongst players on the team, star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb plummeted to the fifth round, far from his usual Top 3 overall ADP (Average Draft Position) across all Yahoo Sports leagues.
The collective decision was driven by a unanimous belief that Lamb’s ongoing contract holdout could sideline him for a while—both in the real world and on fantasy rosters.
“We all know CeeDee’s great when he’s on the field,” said receiver Brandin Cooks, whose fantasy value stands to climb the most in Lamb's absence. “But right now, we’re all pretty sure he’s going to be home, binge-watching ‘The Office’ while negotiating his new deal.”
“Everyone’s worried he might not play the first few games,” revealed one Cowboys linebacker, who requested anonymity while checking his fantasy app and wearing his number 11 jersey. “It’s not that we don’t think he’s talented. It’s just that we’re all pretty sure he’s about to hold out for a better deal, and no one wants to waste a top pick on a guy who might be sitting on the couch in a month while taking up a roster spot on my fantasy bench. I need those bench spots for high-upside handcuff running backs.
As Lamb’s fantasy stock plummeted, it became clear: everyone’s betting he’ll be absent from both their real games and fantasy matchups. Longtime fantasy league commissioner and backup quarterback Cooper Rush echoed the sentiment, “I guess we all know a bit too much about each other’s business.”
