Cowboys Running Backs Shocked to Discover "Competing for Starting Job" Isn't About Job Start Dates

The Dallas Cowboys running backs recently experienced a revelation of epic proportions: "competing for a starting job" doesn't mean their jobs are just beginning.

Several players admitted they had been under the impression that the phrase meant they were competing to see whose career would officially start. "I thought it was like starting a new job where you get an orientation and do some paperwork," said Rico Dowdle, who showed up on Day One with an excited grin and a freshly ironed uniform.

Royce Freeman confessed he had been waiting for a "start date" email from Coach Mike McCarthy. "I kept checking my inbox, wondering when I'd get to officially start my job," he said, baffled.

The players were reportedly stunned to learn that the phrase actually refers to who will get the majority of the playing time. "So... we actually have to play to get the job?" one bewildered back muttered.

Fortunately, senior leader Zeke Elliott was there to explain that a starting job is something he used to have.
