DALLAS—In what analysts are calling an "honest mistake," the Dallas Cowboys have reportedly traded for nose tackle Jordan Phillips after mistakenly believing they were acquiring Dolphins safety Jordan Poyer.
"We're excited to add Jordan P—uh, Phillips—to our roster," said Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy, nervously glancing at the press release. "He's going to make a big impact...on the defensive line, I guess?"
The confusion reportedly began when team owner Jerry Jones, who is known for his hands-on approach to personnel decisions, overheard a conversation about acquiring "Jordan P." Jones, thinking they were talking about Poyer, immediately authorized the trade without clarifying the last name.
"With Poyer, we were aiming to shore up our secondary," said Cowboys GM Jerry Jones, clearly bewildered. "Turns out, we just added a really big guy who likes to clog up the middle. Oops."
While looking for flights to Dallas, Jordan Phillips was asked about the confusion, and said he “gets it.” Adding, “When Poyer and I were both on the Bills we were mixed up all the time and known as the Jordan P’s, so yeah, it actually makes sense.”
