Emmitt Smith, 55, Eyes Cowboys Return After Zeke Re-Signed: “If He Can Do It, So Can I”

DALLAS—After just now learning the surprising news that Zeke Elliott re-signed with the Cowboys in April, 55-year-old Emmitt Smith is reportedly questioning why he’s still retired.

“I mean, if Zeke can get another deal, why not me?” said Smith, the NFL’s all-time leading rusher, while casually stretching his hamstrings.

“Sure, it’s been 20 years, but it’s not like explosiveness is a requirement anymore, considering the Zeke signing.” Smith labored to say while catching his breath after running laps around his local track.

Smith has reportedly begun a rigorous training regimen consisting of light jogging, stretching, and rewatching his old highlight reels for motivation.

Smith’s agent is in talks with Jerry Jones about a possible one-year, $1 million deal, with a clause that allows Smith to take nap breaks between plays.

“If Zeke’s getting paid to jog around the field, I’m pretty sure I can too,” Smith added with a grin, "I’ve still got it,” as he tried to remember where he put his glasses.
