DALLAS—Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott has revealed his unconventional pre-game ritual: blasting a Jock Jams CD on his vintage Sony Discman with 10 second skip protection.
“Everyone else has playlists on Spotify, but I’m all about that retro vibe,” Elliott said, popping open his Discman to show off the well-worn Jock Jams Volume 1 disc that was released three days after his birth in July, 1995. “Nothing gets me more hyped than ‘Pump Up the Jam’ and ‘YMCA.’”
Teammates often raise eyebrows at Elliott’s old-school choice. “I thought he was joking at first,” said quarterback Dak Prescott. “But then I saw him warming-up to ‘Whoomp! (There It Is)’ and realized he was dead serious.”
Even head coach Mike McCarthy has grown to appreciate Elliott’s unique method. “Hey, whatever works,” McCarthy shrugged. “If Zeke needs a 90s dance mix to fall into the endzone, who am I to judge?”
At press time, Elliott was overheard lobbying team owner Jerry Jones for a halftime show featuring a reunion of the Jock Jams volume 1 performers from Tag Team to Naughty by Nature.
