WASHINGTON—After nearly a quarter-century of inexplicable delay, the U.S. Postal Service announced Friday that it has finally located a year 2000 apology letter Terrell Owens mailed to Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.
The letter, sent after Owens’ notorious celebration on the Cowboys' midfield star, was discovered beneath a stack of Sears catalogs, Y2K pamphlets, and AOL trial CDs in a Pennsylvania sorting facility.
In a surprising twist, USPS officials are demanding Owens pay an additional 40 cents to cover the postage increase from 33 cents in 2000 to 73 cents in 2024. "We strive for accuracy in all things, especially postage fees," said Postmaster General Louis DeJoy.
Jones, upon receiving the long-lost letter, laughed and remarked, "I guess Terrell’s apology was worth the wait—and the extra 40 cents." The billionaire generously added, “I’ll even pay the extra postage for T.O.”
Owens, now retired, expressed relief, saying, "I always wondered why Jerry gave me the side eye when I played for the Cowboys a few years later. I’d just assumed he received my heartfelt apology letter."
